Owen: Live @ Polyvinyl Offices

I have to admit, this summer has been pretty fun. I’ve spent my off-time watching marathons of Jem and more recently, trapping groups of zombies and blowing them to kingdom come on Dead Island. But occasionally, I get to do some things that are actually related to music. Sure, I go to shows semi-regularly and when I do, I tend to keep them to myself. But sometimes they’re extra special. Recently, Polyvinyl Records decided to invite a small group of fans to see Owen perform live in their offices to help promote their 15-year anniversary. Its also part of the lead-up to their anniversary show tomorrow where they’re featuring 9 of their bands(the most ever in one show) playing from 2:30 to midnight in their hometown of Champaign-Urbana.

I was fortunate enough to be a part of that small group today and was even able to pick up his new record while I was there. All in all, Mike Kinsella played about 5 songs on his acoustic guitar for us and a good time was had by all. Aside from breaking a string in-between songs and temporarily forgetting how Bags of Bones goes, it went off without a hitch. From what I understand, the video that was taken will be available shortly on his YouTube channel… what channel that is, however, I don’t know. Anyway, the Polyvinyl guys were class acts and very generous to let us be a part of this. It’ll be an experience that I won’t soon forget.
